Everything is on schedule for the Outlets of Des Moines to open in October.
With good weather this summer, construction has been speeding ahead for the new shopping center in Altoona.
“Ryan Companies, our general contractor, has done a great job in getting the project complete to be turned over to us. That is scheduled to happen by the end of the month and some of the final touches are being made in the coming weeks,” said TJ Just, general manager of the Outlets of America.
Retailers have already started to take possession of their stores.
Stores announced so far include: Le Creuset, Rack Room Shoes, Old Navy, Nike Factory Store, Gap, Brook Bros. Factory Store, Vera Bradley, Francesca’s, Lids, Levi’s Outlet Store, Zales Outlet, Converse, Asics, GNC, Yankee Candle, Lane Bryant Outlet, Loft Outlet, Tommy Hilfiger, Maurices, Skechers, Famous Footwear, Under Armour, Carter’s, OskKosh B’gosh, Vanity Fair Outlet, Kay Jewelers Outlet, Fragrance Outlet, Bath and Body Works and Express Factory Outlet.
“In a couple weeks we will be announcing a process for revealing additional stores through social media,” Just said. “There will be vacancies when we open as some retailers will wait until after grand opening and perhaps even the holiday season to make their decisions. That is not unusual and we are looking forward to continuing to recruit and add stores through 2018.”
New England Development put the outlet mall in Altoona in hopes that people in greater Des Moines will take advantage of the convenient and unique shopping option near them.
“It will generate millions of dollars in sales taxes and employ over 800 people at full occupancy,” Just said. “The Outlets will also generate additional development in the surrounding area in Altoona, as retailers are attracted by the millions of customers that we will draw. We are already seeing that with Heart of America’s recently-announced plans to further develop The Shoppes at Prairie Crossing.”
The Outlets of Des Moines project has been modeled after a prairie style that is seen throughout Iowa. It will have design elements inspired by well-known prairie style architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
There will be a weekend long event for the outlet malls’ grand opening on Friday, Oct. 20, according to Just with “activities, entertainment and of course great shopping.”
