Nestled among the glorious pine hills and sand dunes of eastern Massachusetts, Old Sandwich Golf Club is now recognized as home to one of the greatest courses in the world. It’s the kind of rare, hidden gem that you will find only if you know where to look: south of Boston and a couple miles north of Cape Cod, on an ancient colonial road that gives the club its name.
Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, and first opened for play in 2004, the course at Old Sandwich lies at the heart of a private, local and national members club founded by purists for purists, in a landscape seemingly destined for golf — blessed with plenty of heavy elevation change, abundant sand deposits and an attractive mix of pine, fescue and blueberry undergrowth.
Old Sandwich Golf Club is built amid the 3,000 forested acres that were formerly known as the Talcott estate, after John G. Talcott, Jr., a legendary local civic leader, businessman, cranberry farmer and descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims, who made this his home for more than five decades. The timeless New England character of this magnificent estate has inspired the design of the Clubhouse and Teaching Center.
Life at Old Sandwich revolves around the Clubhouse. Overlooking a picturesque pond through the trees, this grand 19,000-square-foot lodge serves as a warm and welcoming retreat. Richly appointed locker rooms invite members to unwind with a steam bath and a visit to the lounge at the end of a full day on the links. And when it’s time to join friends for dinner, members have a choice of dining rooms — either indoors or out on the patio — to suit the occasion.
Equipped with state-of-the-art, computer-based video swing diagnostics and staffed by experienced golf instructors, the Teaching Center helps members improve the most critical part of their game in the most spectacular of environments. The practice range and short game facility are unrivaled in New England. The Teaching Center is open year round and features three indoor hitting bays, enabling members to warm up or practice in any season, in any kind of weather.
Beautifully furnished cottages are available for the exclusive enjoyment of members and guests — each offering four bedrooms, five big screen TVs, gas and natural wood-burning fireplaces, and all the amenities you might expect, including the friendly assistance of the Clubhouse concierge.
Old Sandwich Golf Club is a rich and distinctive blend of characteristics – deriving from the land, the camaraderie, and the quality of the game itself. Currently ranked among the top 50 courses in the U.S. and among the top 100 courses in the world, Old Sandwich has earned its place among the truly elite experiences in golf.
