MarketPlace Development, together with local partner Reininga Corporation of San Francisco, was selected by the San Francisco Airport Commission in December 1998 to manage the tenant outreach, leasing, and construction management for over 40,000 square feet for food and beverage locations in San Francisco International Airport’s New International Terminal.
The Airport’s goal for the food and beverage locations was to create a strong program that reflected the character of San Francisco through the inclusion of local and regional concepts with a strong emphasis on participation by San Francisco businesses and by Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. The plan features an array of food and beverage facilities including two large pre-security food courts, three food clusters, and five casual dining and bar facilities.
The New International Terminal opened in December 2000, showcasing the superb quality and diversity of the San Francisco Bay Area’s favorite restaurants to the traveling public. This new food and beverage program — unparalleled in American airports — helped transform the public’s perception of airport dining, providing a welcoming San Francisco gateway for international and domestic travelers. The food and beverage program was carefully crafted to create a truly memorable San Francisco experience: the 17 restaurants in the terminal were carefully selected from the nine Bay Area counties and featured such favorites as Andale, Ebisu, and Firewood Grill.
