The South Boston Waterfront secured its place on the national stage in 2004 with the grand opening of the world-class Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. In 2006, yet another landmark opened: The Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel, developed by New England Development in partnership with The Fallon Company. These contiguous facilities anchor Greater Boston’s tourism industry and have further established the South Boston Waterfront as a vibrant, 24-hour neighborhood. The Westin Boston, sold by the development team in January 2007, is considered pivotal to the success of the new Convention Center, the South Boston Waterfront, and Boston’s convention industry.
Connected to the 1.7 million square foot Convention Center, the hotel is one of the premier meeting and conference facilities in New England. At opening, The Westin Boston featured 790 guest rooms and suites, a health club with an indoor pool, a fully equipped business center, and parking for 400 cars. A total of 70,000 square feet of meeting space included the 15,000 square-foot Grand Ballroom, an 8,500 square-foot Harbor Ballroom, and an additional 19 meeting breakout rooms.
