Westgate Mall to Host Adult Winter Clothing Drive for Local Charity, Support the Soupman

October Donation Drive to Provide Essential Items for the Homeless

BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS (September 2020) - Westgate Mall (ShopatWestgateMall.com) will host a month-long donation drive in October to gather much needed winter wear for the homeless in partnership with the local charity, Support the Soupman. Items needed include new adult size jackets, boots, hats, and mittens/gloves. Donations can be left in the specially marked donation bin located near Burlington in the mall. Support the Soupman is a regional nonprofit with a mobile convoy of specially equipped vehicles that provide essential services for the homeless.

Support the Soupman travels from city to city to provide the homeless with showers, meals, backpacks of essential toiletries, and clean clothes. The organization’s goal is to favorably impact the lives of the vulnerable population, restore dignity, and provide hope. The Soupman currently helps the homeless in cities in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, with twice weekly stops in Brockton, MA.

The financial contributions of the organization’s corporate sponsors, including The Kraft Family Foundation, the Unilever Foundation, the Derenzo Foundation, Newmans Own, 3M Foundation, the Steele Family Foundation, and Ocean State Job Lot have generated the purchase of three mobile showers, two refurbished clothing buses, a minibus, 13,000 meals to families throughout the COVID crisis, and more.

“Westgate Mall is pleased to be the host site for this vital winter wear donation drive,” says Rebekah Macchia, Marketing Director at Westgate Mall. “Support the Soupman is a regional nonprofit with deep roots in our area. We are pleased to be able to help collect donations of winter clothing items which will help those in need in Brockton and other communities,” she adds.
