After more than two years of planning and public meetings with the City of Cambridge Planning Board and the City Council, as well as with members of the public and various community groups, the transformation of CambridgeSide has reached a major milestone: masterplan approval by the City of Cambridge Planning Board. This approval follows rezoning approval by the Cambridge City Council in December of 2019, which paved the way for the redevelopment of CambridgeSide. The project will transform First Street into an active and vibrant street providing new connections between the East Cambridge neighborhood and CambridgeSide and Canal Park, and will serve to further improve and activate Canal Park for use and enjoyment by the City and regional residents and visitors.
