New England Development opened The Mall at Rockingham Park next to the popular Rockingham Park racetrack in August 1991 and quickly established it as the region’s top destination for tax-free shopping. The two-level, 1 million square foot mall - the largest shopping center in New Hampshire - included anchors Filene’s, JC Penney and Sears, 135 specialty stores, a 500-seat food court and a sit-down restaurant. Retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria’s Secret and GapKids debuted their first ever stores in the region here and 15 more specialty stores and another anchor soon joined the strong retail mix.
Strategically sited just off Interstate 93 in Salem, New Hampshire, The Mall at Rockingham Park continues to benefit from an unsurpassed location on the New Hampshire-Massachusetts border and attracts shoppers from greater Boston, the Merrimack Valley, and northern New England. New England Development sold the property in 1999 to Simon Property Group.
