Free People, the Philadelphia-based bohemian fashion retailer, has plans to open its first Boston-area large-format store in Chestnut Hill Square this Friday.
The 5,090-square-foot retail store will open at 200 Boylston St. It’s the company’s largest store in the state since Free People opened its first retail location in The Shops at Prudential Center 10 years ago.
“(The) Boston market has always been very strong,” said Beth Wehagen, Free People’s Director of Store Retail, in an interview. “There is an appetite for retail and (because of this) we are able to add more categories to our stores.”
Chestnut Hill Square is a lifestyle retail center owned by New England Development. The size of Free People at Chestnut Hill Square is much larger than a traditional Free People boutique, and will allow for additional departments such as “FP Collection” shoes and “Intimately Free People” underwear selection, Wehagen said.
Free People offer what it calls personalized shopping experiences to its customers, in-store stylists and one-on-one appointments, Wehagen said.
Anthropologie, a sister brand of Free People under parent company Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN), is a tenant in Chestnut Hill Square as well.
