Florida back-to-school tax holiday starts Friday

(August 6, 2015 – WEST PALM BEACH  – CBS12) – This year’s 10 day tax free shopping holiday starts Friday, it’s the longest shoppers will get a chance to rack up tax free since 2007.

But as some deals begin to pop up, London and his dad are getting a head start. Shoppers getting an early start at the Palm Beach Outlets say the deals are endless.

Pam Rada is the Marketing Director for the Palm Beach Outlets and says “A lot of stores are having 40, 50 percent off or even more. Sometimes they’ll have buy one get one and you get that with the tax free so it’s huge savings for all. The National Retail Federation says it’s all about stretching that dollar with major savings.

Craig Shearman is the Vice President of Public Relations for the NRF and says “when consumers can save that 5 or 10 percent by virtue of not paying sales tax, there’s a huge psychological appeal that goes far beyond the amount of money involved.”

But not everyone is convinced, some parents, like Angela Melendez, still plan on opting out.

School will be back in session here in Palm Beach County on August 17th.

The Palm Beach Outlets will also be holding a back to school bash and supply drive.
